*To a Getaway Friday in The Lounge.....
*Today, 85 years ago, my dear mother Dolores Joyce Viegas (Fonseca) was born, in the tiny, tiny Sacramento Delta outpost of Ryde Californaia. Dolores is a great sport, who always has enjoyed her sports. I have to give her credit to exposing me to tennis, and also Peggy Fleming and Olympic Figure
Skating! Mom's greatest gift were those fabulous and never duplicated "Kitchen Sink" Sandwhiches she would hand to you on the way out the door, or pull out deep from her bag. Usually comprised on a roll, with a hunk of chesse and pouporrui of tasty meats.....man I am getting hungry. Mom, you're a good egg, and here is to a great day!
*Can I just say the Warrior-Cliffpers budding rivalry is NBA FANTASTIC! Finally, a real old shool rivalry where the teams, genuinely DO NOT like each other. The fact that is Nor Cal vs SoCal--while only of regional interest--is rich, like a NorCal Cabernet Sauvignon! The W's have played very well after the All-Star Break and appear headed for back-to-back playoff appearances. Now if they can somehow draw the Clipps, it's on. Mark Spears of Yahoo Sports, one of may favorite NBA analysts. Love the big man's deep, sooth, and crackly voice.
*A's fans, the sight of Scott Kazmir putting up zeroes in Spring Training only heightens the anticipation for the upcoming season. Not a ton of intrigue in Phoenix this Spring, but there are a few questions. Will the carry two or three catchers, and how much will John Jaso even catch? Who wins the 5th spot in the rotation--A.J. Griffin appears to be the front runner, but don' rule out Tommy Milone, or darkhouse candidate Jessie Chavez. Chavez has been slated as the long relief guy in the pen, but his numbers this spring have been starter material. Has Big Mike, Michael Taylor finally put it all together. The former Stanford alum was the key component of the Matt Holliday trade, and thus far, things have not panned out as he or the A's would have hoped. Fast forward to this Spring, and is possibly Big Mike yet another rags to riches story ala Brandon Moss and Josh Donaldson? Time will tell.
*The Raiders finally, finally a made a positive splash with signing of Justin Tuck and Lamar Wooley. They still have a ways to go, but a least for a moment, Raiders fans everywhere exhaled a huge sigh of relief--and possibly hope! I am here to say, after the draft, the Raiders will sign Michael Vick, and he will be the Raiders starting QB. If speedy Clemson Wide Receiver Sammy Watkins is still on the board, I say the Raiders will grab him too. With the surprise resigning of Darren McFadden, the Raiders would at least have some NFL play makers. Stay tuned Raider fans, the drama is just unfolding.
*Thus today, Mom, I raise my glass to you! Also to Sac State Men's Coach Brian Katz, for getting his Hornets into the Big Sky Tournament--exciting game yesterday, the result just not quite right! Finally, to legendary California Community College Hoops Coach Denny Aye, you are back where you belong. Good luck to the Chabot Gladiators in the State Championships.
