True 3-Dot Style...Olympic Tennis Anyone, and Oh My!, What A Finish in the Men's 100 M Final!

Here We Go....In True 3 Dot Style!

Tipping Things Off: A Tip of The Cap to my new fav professional tennis player, Joao Fonseca. The 17-year old Brazilian (soon to turn 18 on 8/21) captured the Lexington Challenger August 4. Fonseca is a rising professional, who captured the US Open Juniors title in 2023. I was first made aware of this exciting young player when Lindsay Davenport spoke glowingly regarding Joao, during Wimbledon coverage. I recall Davenport fondly when she was a member of the Sacramento Capitals of Professional Team Tennis (World Team Tennis) many moons ago! Lindsay was a crowd favorite, consistently interacting with the crowd in an engaging manner. The former #1 ranked player in the world not only flashed an endearing personality, she possessed a booming forehand!...While enjoying a wonderful meal at San Diego's Eureka! (on the campus of San Diego State--the Bourbon Barrel Cake with Ice Cream might be my new fav desert! By the way, our daughter is an Aztec!), I was struck with the zany idea of how fun and personally fulfilling watching tennis at the 2028 Olympics would be?! My wife seemed to approve this idea, however I would imagine if we are fortunate enough to attend the Olympics in 2028 or 2032, I anticipate a little swimming or volleyball will also be on the schedule!?! As a youth, I was introduced to tennis by my late mother Dolores. Thus, tennis has a special place in my soul and psyche. (I played two years of Community College tennis, including being a part of a Bay Valley League Champion Team at Napa Valley College!)  Mom frequently enjoyed watching the Capitals on the court, coincidentally. Now, if somehow the universe could align and we could watch Mr. Fonseca ball-striking in the Olympics--that would be surreal & wonderful!

The moment it hit me @ Eureka's on the SDSU Campus!: Sitting in the stands for Olympic Tennis might just be my destiny!

Of course, it might have been the Bourbon Barrel Cake Talking!

Speaking of the Olympics, Oh My, the 100 Meter Men's Final was electric and literally a blur!?! Congratulations to American Noah Lyles on simply a dazzling victory! Perhaps the Olympic sprint finals should be one vs. one, or a heat of 3-6 racers!?! If you haven't seen a picture or footage of this memorizing finish, then here you go! Lyle's wins 100 M in a Photo Finish!...one item that slipped by last week-the Opening Ceremony for the Paris Olympics were slick! As someone who grew up a long (golf) drive away from a river-The Sacramento River-the athlete's Olympic entrance was simply refreshing and original!

Around the Horn: For you Baseball Aficionados, Prospects1500 (@Prospects1500 on "X" and Prospects1500.com) a fantastic read! (A "little" bit of a plug here as I am a correspondent for this great group of baseball writers and enthusiasts!) After the MLB Trade Deadline, many prospects changed organizations, and Prospects1500 keeps you up to date. It appears the Miami Marlins were the winners as it relates to acquiring talent, however I do believe the end goal is to put a winning product on the field with the big club!.. Locally here in CenCal, the Rockies have moved up one of their top prospects to Fresno, 18-year old Robert Calaz. Thus far in two seasons at the lower level of professional ball, Calaz has been able to reach base at a lofty .450 clip. Down the road in Visalia, one of the Diamondbacks top outfield prospects Drew Jones. Jones thus far is reaching base at over a .400 rate vs. the Single-A pitchers in the California League! Possibly two potential MLB All-Stars nearby this summer...hopefully the White Sox will have a change of fortune here soon!?! After losing their 21st straight game Monday 8/5 @ Oakland, well...hopefully winning ways are on the horizon soon!...Perhaps a trip to the movie theater might be the tonic for the South-Siders-"Deadpool & Wolverine" is witty and entertaining, a little bloody however!...With the Presidential Race Season well under way, you might find the book "Game Change" a pleasurable read; similar to "Moneyball," the details of the personalities in the book are a fascinating read...finally a sincere and heartfelt shout-out to the Dodgers Freddie Freeman and his family. Freeman's 3-year old has been battling with a medical challenge, and we wish the best to the Freeman Family and world. The Dodgers left-handed masher seems like such a genuine, authentic good dude-it is no wonder the Dodgers were scuffling while their teammate is and was dealing with such a serious personal matter...erstwhile our fav Big Leaguer and Kansas City Royals pitcher Sam Long with save vs. the White Sox 7/30. For the month of July, Sam posted a deft 1.08 ERA! Ironically we witnessed Sam facing Freddie this summer in Los Angeles! Freeman flew out to medium-deep left field, but the old ticker did skip a beat for a second thinking the ball was on its way to the outfield grandstands!

Next Up: A look at some recommendations when visiting historic Boston Massachusetts. This piece was pushed back...due to a wonderful little sojourn my wife and I took to the Magic Kingdom! (Must have been the Bourbon Desert!?!)
