*Living Large from the couch this evening......
*Well baseball season is just about here as the Dodgers and DBacks do battle in just a little over an hour. That's 1 a.m. California time! I am a little disappointed with all the diehard Dodger fans, I mean, where are all the opening night parties Dodgers fans? I know Gigantes, I can hear you loud and clear--the typical Dodger fan will be tuning in around 2 a.m......
*Good TV night, as A's and Giants were on the tube, along with NCAA Basketball. The pitchers looked pretty good for both teams, which made me think the lights in Scottsdale night quite up to MLB standards. Two guys who looked very good: Giants starter Yusmeior Petit, and my new fav Sonny Gray. One guy who did not lood good, Yoenis Cespedes. I would just like to see Cespy square one up once in a while! If the A's have an Achilles heal, it is thier defense at short and second--sure enough, Jed I-Can-Hit-Lowrie burped up a throw, and Nick Punto whiffed a would be double play. Brandon Moss contributed by dropping one at first--again, one can only hope the lighting was a factor!
*Poor, poor VCU...up 4 late in the game, and the ending simply hard to believe. As time is running down--3.6 seconds to be exact--VCU is called for a foul, as tonight's Cinderella Stephen Austin is shooing a three! Sure enough, Desmond Haymon drains the three, then coolly makes the free throw to send the game into overtime. Oh man...VCU is going to have trouble sleeping for a while. My only question as I watched this play go down: with so little time, force the Lumberjacks to shoot a two, and cover all the 3's. I like to call it "No Foul, No Three's Defense." Tonight's game a classic example of why this tournament is Dubbed March Madness!
*Just Curious: The NCAA tournament is so lovingly unpredictable, in my opinion, largely due to the Neutral Site Game Format. Why don't other sports adopt this format? The NFL playoffs for example, hey even the NBA. I know, I know, follow the money......but there maybe something to the March Madness Format!
*To soon to talk about the NBA playoffs...but the Western Conference's second season is going to be very entertaining. Don't forget, Bron Bron and the Heat are waiting in the wings! (Sorry Pacers Fans!) It will be nice to have the W's in the postseason for consecutive years.
*Well, well, well-well, well, the Raiders have a pulse. The Matt Schaub signing a little like eating vanilla ice cream, but they do the fell of a .500 team. OK Mr. McKenzie, and Coach DA, now show me something in the draft. I can envision the Raiders trading down....and maybe even back up. They need a young, stud, defensive lineman who can clog things up in the middle. Maybe even two! I love Pitt tackle Aaron Donald, and Fighting Irish Louis Nix III. Of course, if Clemson wideout Sammy Watkins is on the board--hard to pass him up--unless, they can trade down and grab some extra picks. All of a sudden this team has a chance to be decent....this draft, huge! Why not a quarterback you ask--I just don't think any of the top guys are Andrew Luck like. Now they may take a QB in the second or third round, but I think Schaub is the guy for now. The draft will be interesting for the Silver and Black! Allthough, I have to admit, having Watkins, with DMac, and James Jones....well, mix in T Pryor to run once in while; call me a dreamer, but this team could be very entertaining!
(I just heard on Yahoo Sports the idea of the Raiders moving to AT & T park in San Francisco. Hum.....nah.)
*Visalia Rawhide open up 13 days at home against the Stockton Ports. The Hide are a DBack affiliate, while the Ports, that's right, they belong to your Oakland A's. Both teams compete in the California League, categorized as a Class A-Advanced league. Not many seats closer to the field than those in Visalia by the way--you can literally hear the ball hum as it is fired in from the mound!
*Well tonight I raise my glass to: All of those Cal Poly SLO alums who were loving their team's run into March Madness. (The Mustangs surprisingly won their conference tournament--the Big West--then knocked off Texas Souther in the First Four/Play in Game.) Sac State your next! Also to my wonderful spouse, for grillen up some tasty steaks to go with a stellar night of sports television!
